GLSEN NYCR (Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network in New York's Capital Region) is most known for promoting safe schools for all.
The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.
HOW WE DO IT
GLSEN NYCR is most known for our monthly YouthPride programming, our Jump-Start Leadership team, a big annual "Breaking The Silence" Rally held at The Egg each April, our involvement in the "Alternative Prom" held each June & for providing support to teachers, administrators, students, parents and anyone looking to make schools a safer learning environment for all.
Locally, we are 100% run by volunteers. We are always looking for others that wish to get their hands dirty, as we work tirelessly to support the youth in our community that really drive our mission. Our goal is to be sustainable, by offering the programs and services that our youth need, and to offer the training & support that good educators have been searching for.
